His argument "Sounds like Organic Chemistry doesn’t it?" is exactly what I am criticising. Sounding similar, doesn't mean there will be strong synergy effects.

I give that there could be some synergy effects, but I highly doubt there are strong enough that it's better to study orgo rather than what is actually being applied.
