I think you'd find that there are other people who share your values regarding quality. Eventually, you might be able to share the work of maintaining the site with these people and the site will grow more quickly. (And maybe you'll enjoy seeing some new templates appear.) Otherwise, (I think) what will happen is that you'll get tired of maintaining the site and updates will stop.
