It's predicting the next word, looking for the statically most relevant words to complete the query. It's how it started at the foundation of LLMs, even reasoning models are trained on reasoning patterns, completing the pattern and using pattern completion and statistics to do what they do. But in the end it's still quite likely humans do the same thing... Oh well.
