From Pizzagate to the 2020 Election: Forcing Liars to Pay or Apologize (nytimes.com)

Paywalled article about the election and highly polarizing topics. Getting my popcorn ready

I'm... not sure... a bit sad, a bit surprised that people think defamation is acceptable. Because election.

The same applies in other circumstances. "Saving the climate should not be a crime", "I was just bringing the kids to school".

IMO breaking the law due to a greater good is acceptable if and only if you accept the punishment with your head held high. IM personal O.

It's just weird to expect the owner and employees of some random pizza place to suffer for your convictions but not be willing to suffer for them yourself.

IM personal O, people determined to make others suffer unjustly are as full of nonsense as people who straight up lie.

One may be disruptive to social order (the liar), but the one forcing unjust outcomes on another is straight up barbarism. A lie can be sussed out with diligence. A life ruined through unjust application of force cannot be mended.

Then again, I suppose at best we're all just choosy barbarians, picking and choosing when to let the crazy out.
