Personally, I wouldn't mind paying for the service as business user if the free accounts were worth recommending to people I know. Just yesterday I found out that my son's free account does not let him search emails older than 1 month. There's no other sane way to access them. Pretty dark to prevent people from accessing their own content.

Non-recommendable free account is the reason I switched away from ProtonMail, which adds advertising footer to emails sent from free accounts.

What am I supposed to do? Recommend gmail to everyone?

i am now 3 years into selfhosting emails.

i had initial hickups with regards to gmail and especially outlook declaring all emails as spam but sadly i was past that pretty quickly.

i recently set up a similar VPS for a friend, took me half an hour from domain/vps purchase to a fully functional server. Surprisingly, gmail did not spam their emails including attachments so maybe they are improving?

i'd say the upside of this is so much more than relying on a third party. Sure you are responsible for the server (use backblaze backups) but i haven't had a problem in the 3 years so i am a happy user.

i login every 6 months or so, do a bash update and log back out. That's about it i do regarding maintenance so its not even a big deal.

>> Essential – 6 euros/month/user: Essential is our basic plan for business use. Each user will get 50 GB of storage, 15 email alias addresses,

6 euros/m for 50GB is expensive.

To be fair, current users can keep their current plan.

What is not clear to me is if those who say yes will also get access to their file storage solution once it’s ready, or not.
