How far are we from having available a peer-to-peer, community trained, open source alternative to ChatGPT, that, would allow individuals to run, control and access their own personal AI bot?

Not at all:

The idea with this "Ask HN" here, is that people brainstorm and share knowledge on projects and technologies that would enable a platform as described to be built. Rather than just be provided "as a service", it should be instead end user-controlled.

Quick Examples:

+ Switch off bot reply censorship;

+ Instead of cloud-based MS Office, something like OpenOffice;


At a moderate distance, assuming LAION OpenAssistant and/or Carper.ai deliver.
