If these companies have 90% of the world’s smart people, why aren’t their products lean, efficient and a pleasure to use. We’re 50+ years on in the business and I can’t say things are noticeably more stable now than previously. Yeah, way more eye candy but we didn’t have to reboot systems much at all. Broader user base, certainly, but the machines of the 80’s were pretty widespread, and there’s a lot of gaming consoles as well.
Maybe they’re not all smart, but “smart”. Maybe they’re being forced to do stupid things on overly tight schedules by the evil folks in marketing and management. Maybe they’re just crap developers, as merely making things work is craftsmanship and who likes to be a technician.
If you’re really one of the “off the right side” of the bell curve don’t sell out for the money, put a dent in the universe. Can’t take it with you.
