You can tell by reading this that Lehmer really loved number theory, and especially his favoured problem of factorization. The last paragraph especially is closer to an ode to mathematics than a progress report for the stated problem; I only wish such whimsy was more common today in 'technical' fields like math (Berlekamp, Conway, and Guy come to mind)
