There's a huge difference between the acute, localized inflammation from a sports injury versus the chronic, systemic inflammation associated with some metabolic diseases. Acute inflammation is actually a useful part of the healing process so we don't necessarily want to reduce it unless it's causing other problems.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy appears to be somewhat effective for accelerating healing certain soft tissue injuries. So athletes have used it. But it's not clear whether that therapy is any more effective than other recovery modalities. Research has been limited.
