I only recently read it and I was surprised how he predicted social media and it's consequences (although certainly was speaking of existing things but wow so dead on in many ways). He could have published a book and not needed to bomb anyone.

Kaczynski writes:

I can't really argue with this, I doubt this essay would have reached as wide of an audience as it did if he didn't kill anyone.

I think we would be surprised at how few people actually have read this manifesto vs simply a popular book.

Have you heard of Jacques Ellul? No? He published a book or two and didn't bomb anyone... and only academics have even heard of him.

I read both Ellul and OP in engineering ethics class in my underground. But fair point, most of my colleagues were pretty disinterested in the material.

Reason is Kaczynski was actually a genius intellectual that went mad. His observations in many ways are completely accurate. His solutions are naive, as he thinks these things could have been corrected. They must take their course unfortunately.

I don't think that there is anything in this manifesto that warrants labeling the author as an I-word.
