After testing this with a temporary email, I received an email prompting me to confirm my address but nothing else after confirming. So you're basically just collecting emails without sending anything in return.
If the plan really is to ask for an email first and share anything about the papers later, it won't be too popular on HN. It just looks like a cheap attempt to collect email addresses.
The creator of this page sells software. I am highly suspicious that an email newsletter will inevitable have some advertisements in it for that. No way would I provide my email. It should be a blog with an optional newsletter.
