how does this in any way equate to "token"?



The user is being unnecessarily condescending (and frank;y I’m not sure they have actual knowledge of the domain). But what they’re referring to is the URM boost.

This article has stats. Harvard boosts urm admissions by 10,000%, Yale by 800%. Data from 2017. This means they get in with lower gpa’s and lower LSAT scores. A .10-.11 gpa difference for yale-harvard and a 5-7 point LSAT differential.

If have two top-of-their-class candidates, being a minority pushes you over the line.
