DOGE shut down and was a farce from the beginning. Typical Musk. He only shut down regulatory parts of the government that were investigating him and stole as much data as he could. A few publicity stunts like installing starlink near the White House.
DOGE was an obvious farce that defunded and destroyed necessary programs on a purely ideological basis[0], intimidated government employees[1], created far more tax waste than it ever found, much less claimed[2,3] disrupted legitimate government functions by firing necessary employees who needed to be rehired[4], exfiltrated an unknown amount of private data to Palantir and who knows who else[5,6], and then after permanent damage to the government was done, was closed[7]. It's mission is complete, there's nothing more to hear about them.

Problem is I’m fairly sure the link is wildly overstating its case, and looks like a content farm. Might even be, ironically, AI slop itself! For example, it talks about “railway spine”: “Physicians of the time believed that the jarring motion and vibrations of train travel could shatter the nervous system, causing lasting mental and emotional distress.”
This is bullshit. As just one example of the low trustworthiness of the “article”, railway spine was the result of a train crash, a notably traumatic event, and the symptoms described are in part just PTSD, a real condition and a real concern (not normal rail travel). For that matter railway travel in those days was genuinely unpleasant (lots of vibrations and jarring movement, poorly ventilated cars, and so on) which ironically modern science would probably validate as being some kind of health risk.
I’d actually view the listed example of train paranoia a great example of historical ignorance. People of the past were not stupid, contrary to popular belief. History has some genuine examples of silly hysteria, but these are usually the exception not the rule.

I am a U.S. citizen so I have a stake in the success or failure of our country. Old Dinosaur Janet Yellen single handedly added more to the U.S. federal debt more than any other person in modern history. The damage she did, is the kind of damage someone would historically burn at the stake for. Trillions of debt that your future kids will have to repay casually makes you want to bring up the topic of back tar and feathering. I don’t know enough about Kevin Warsh yet to comment about him but Powell (unlike Janet) was at least very at his job, even if he frequently treated lagging economic indicators like leading indicator. Through lagging heavy actions that made me wealthy enough to put a down-payment on a house, Powell turned the Fed from a fairly unknown, hidden organization into a household name. The Fed should not be as popular as a celebrity on TMZ because it brings politics and incompetent influencers into the decision outcomes.
It is misleading to imply she personally chose to create that debt. Congress and the President decided on it, she was simply the head of the Treasury department responsible for financing them. And the "them" is Covid, the CHIPs act, interest rates and refinancing.

Yes, Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 are still Anthropic’s best chat models. They had more human evals and are still a joy to chat with. Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 5 by comparison have a cold enterprise feel. Opus 4.7 talks like I’d imagine a hitman would talk.
Sonnet 4.6 is better at writing good emails than Opus 4.8, Fable 5, and even Sonnet 5.
It’s unbearably slow, for sure. Not nearly as slow as Kimi K2.6 though. I’m trying to like 4.8 but I may go back to 4.6 again. Definitely won’t ever be using 4.7.
4.8 took a shortcut today. There was an error in my local LLM’s relay of thinking text. So it brilliantly decided to turn thinking off, neutering the model. Had to revert that nerf. That’s the same lazy behavior as 4.7. 4.6 would never.
