Some people still want their phone to (1) make phone calls (2) make phone calls. For them a phone that makes phone calls and the battery lasts a week is far more full featured.

Yeah and some people still want a typewriter. They can have one. That doesn't make it any more useful than the one trick device it is.

So all your head requests get filtered out when the db gets queried. Leaving all your gets and posts etc.

Also better hope your crawler doesn't hit any illegal sites (there are loads according to UK law).

> (there are loads according to UK law).

No, there really aren't.

The thing is that is not how it works. If the encryption can be broken it can be broken. If the government can read your messages so can the coffeeshop.

> vegan or animal rights

I read that as vegan rights or animal rights...

according to my facebook feed vegans have rights too ;)

When you see a political post do you tend to interact with it? Do you interact more with personal uplifting stories? Your feed tends to contain the sort of things you interact with to the exclusion of the sort of things you don't.

You are probably in a Facebook bubble without even realising it...

No. I dont do anything on facebook at all, i just happen to scroll through my feed every other week when i just went online to contact one of the few people that i cant reach otherwise.

I really see where you are going, and i see that we all are in our personal Facebook bubble. But my point stands that Facebook simply does not have the same relevance at here that it seems to have in the U.S. People here read news, many even young, read actual newspapers. There is not so much place for facebook in a system that already works.

And before someone asks, yes our newspapers are heavily favoring too. But thats not the point.

Well there you go again: at last count 1.26 billion people check Facebook daily, and they're not all American. The figures in German speaking countries are huge too, your personal usage is simply not very representative of most people's.

Ever tried editing the xml and rezipping? Also on examination you might notice the odd binary blob in the xml..

It is actually available to buy right now. The Xps 13 developer edition is not available and the Windows edition has different hardware which is not Linux compatible (WiFi).

Excellent I've been trying to buy one for a while. Now to find it in the UK site...

>different hardware which is not Linux compatible (WiFi).

link? I heard they had crappy broadcom chipsets but would be good to get some specific info.

TBH the sites i looked at last night seemed to say the current hardware that ships with windows is well supported...

It used to be that you had to use Windows to update the bios and that grub didn't work so dual boot was not possible. Also broadcomm.

Glad if that has changed!

Can't speak for the xps13 but I got a xps15 (Windows, no Linux option) about 6 months ago and everything works as expected.

Dirtycow is a vulnerability that can be exploited to give privilege escalation. So no the script doesn't start running as root - but it aims to get there.
