Apple is doomed because they're not focusing on desktop computers? Um..... what?
Alternately: Apple is ignoring desktop computers because the market is mobile and laptops, and really it's just corporations and enthusiasts that will go out of their way for a desktop... ya know, the kinds of people that aren't going to buy a Mac anyway. So why should Apple focus on a market that they're making obselete?
Why do you choose to throw out an insult at Windows? Is there anything about this story that points to Windows being at fault? How about you think before you flame next time, okay?
I have been a professional webmaster since 1995. I have worked for California's largest privately held webhosting company. I am an MCP in Windows server and have been the only guy on staff willing to support customers with IIS.
Don't take it personal. Inferior products need support, too. You will always be able to find work making IIS sites as long as MS is selling server software.
So they force all their users to go through a process that has 1) never been seen before for a mouse, and 2) absolutely asinine in concept anyway? It's a MOUSE. If you want feedback, ask for it. Don't force the user to jump through hoops to utilize the product you just sold them.
Would you rather have a ball made out of trash that falls apart when you kick it, a "proper" ball that gets torn to shreds, or this "not regulation" ball that can withstand any abuse you throw at it?
This seems like a no-brainer to me. These kids don't need a regulation ball, and they deserve better than trash.
Can we please stop using "sexy" to describe tech work? It isn't sexy, it requires a LOT of knowledge and a LOT of critical thinking. That it gets called "sexy" and is "the thing that teens and twenty-somethings flock to" just shows the culture we have here. "Oh that's cool, I wanna try it!" 90% of the people who ever start in "tech entrepreneurship" are going to fail, because they have absolutely no idea what they're doing, other than following the trendy train. Drives me nuts.
Sorry if you don't think that say a Spitfire isn't sexy and should make any engineers heart sing just to see it fly and to hear the sound of the merlin or griffin you have no soul.
And the sad grandeur of the last TSR2 (look it up) all alone at the back of a hanger with its wings off at Cranfield doesn’t make you sad you should not be working in technology not even on some little iphone fart app.
The Spitfire is sexy. The work that went in to producing it? Not so much. That's the issue: the people who are being attracted by the "sexy" tag are people who actually don't want to do any of that work.
I dont' see the problem. People are already attracted to engineering for the "wrong" reasons - most of them dig deep enough to discover just how much work it is, and run screaming in the other direction.
And that's fine, now we have someone who's doing something else and better informed to boot.
I'd venture this "problem" is neither a problem nor is it unique to our field. People think making video games is sexy until they see the innards of a game studio. People think making movies is sexy until they actually start doing it. People think being a musician is sexy until they've dealt with labels, marketing, and the royalty system.
So on and so forth.
Nothing executed at a high level is actually that sexy, but that's okay, because it's still sexy to the people who are doing it. Tons of rocket scientists, software engineers, automotive engineers, movie directors, and musicians wake up every day and can't wait to do the myriad of supposedly boring things they find sexy.
You say that as though Turions and the Core series were bad. I'm currently running a Phenom 2 x6 3.3GHz.. and guess what? For the majority of tasks, it is no better than my previous Core 2 Quad 2.5GHz. And the Turion processor is no slouch; I know this from experience.
Can these chips power a supercomputer? No. Do 99% of people need them to? Not at all.
Gotta love it. They keep trying to shove shit down our throats that we don't want, and get surprised when somebody fights back. Maybe there wouldn't be a need to have hardware that can skip ads if those ads weren't so incredibly obnoxious.
I will say at least in my case I'm not thrilled by the lack of SD card and no removable battery. As I already am on TMobile HSPA+ is better for me, however. But with Android it seems like every phone is trade offs, and to get good battery life, latest version of android, and the nexus experience, I'll give up those things.
Sure, though personally I don't want to spend my time rooting my phone. For those who do, awesome. I don't feel like investing the time in that process when I could be doing more productive things (to me) with my day.
