"Basically, we can be casually racist with each other, because it's between equals. Americans can't, because it's between two groups, one of which used to inflict horrible human rights abuses over the other."
I really enjoy the guilty/shame we put upon White Christians about slavery.
Even being the *OnlY* people who fought to end the slavery.
Black merchants/kings? Jesuit Company (Converted Jews), Islamic republics, etc.
All did not care about slavery.
But then these pesky White Christians came and said NO to slavery.
I hope they learn the lesson and be more cultural aware in future.
You're seeing a lot of political consolidation around getting rid of, or revamping considerably section 230 which most social media platforms have been protected from lawsuits for a while now.
When you have both parties in agreement that FB, Twitter and Google are a threat to free speech and democracy, you best watch out.
This was my thought. The heat was getting too much for him. Law makers repeatedly asking him to come testify on this and that. The pressure to get rid of 230, and have better controls on banning people may have just worn on him enough where he just decided to toss in the towel and move onto something else and quietly disappear.
Mainframe hardware and software has been documented to an extent to which the AS/400 and later hardware has never been. Extensive documentation was available for the S/38 (including source listings) but many details of the AS/400 have deliberately been kept under wraps.
Here's a TL;DR of the links:
[0] Guy gets into an argument with protestors, then crashes his truck. Protestors fight guy.
[1] Guy exits vehicle and argues with protestors. Cop breaks it up before things get out of hand.
[2] Guy (accidentally) runs over a cyclist at a protest. Protestors get angry and trash car.
[3] Youtube takes down a video, puts it back up with age restrictions.
In the two cases where protestors attacked a vehicle or its occupants either the driver already had an altercation with protestors or the vehicle struck a protestor. The original comment I was replying to implied that there was lots of footage of protestors attacking people in cars. This doesn't show any evidence of that. I still haven't seen any evidence that there is a problem of protestors attacking random cars and their occupants.
"health insurance shouldn't mean we'll do whatever it takes to keep somebody alive no matter what".
That is a valid thought and a lot of "universal" and "free" healthcare have "costs containment" and even "alternatives" health care (homeopathy) for higher cost diseases[1]
Now the question is when it will come to you or a beloved one will it be ok to me say : "nahh, lets save a lot of money"?
A lot of people think Europe Health system is perfect and universal.
It is when you are young. Once you have a hard cancer Rich people take a flight to US.
I understand the point you're trying to make. I would like to also point out that non-rich people in the US often just die. It's not like the non-rich US-based get the same care that the rich non-US-based fly here to get.
