You basically don’t use sudo on macOS though. Maybe once in a blue moon

You're making a big assumption about how other people use their computers. If you're running mostly desktop applications on Linux, you wouldn't use sudo much either. And if anything, I use sudoish-to-actual-rootlike on Windows more than on Linux, because more things are gated behind elevated privileges (some papered over by default UAC settings, but only when manipulated through built-in GUI tools) and there's nothing as simple as Distrobox and rootless Podman to set up isolated non-root environments.

This makes no sense? How is one even correlated with the other? Data centers obviously have much different requirements than office buildings for people. On a very small scale this works but not on a larger scale.

This article feels weirdly anachronistic with talking points I haven't really heard anyone mention since like 2023.

This doesn't actually prove your original comment. It just says that it could happen, not that it is happening.

I think this is one of the things they're fixing in macOS 27 golden gate, took them long enough. https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOSBeta/comments/1u0lhyz/macos_27...

I'm not even convinced this is a bug. Menu icons proliferated over the last couple of years, this isn't a problem unless you enable more than you have room for.

I agree, I keep mine pretty minimal, most are basically there as ads to remind you they exist cough cough ms teams.

Why do you care? It’s a hobby like anything else.

Canada passed a similar bill a few years ago causing meta to stop showing Canadian news content on their platforms. It didn’t really impact them financially or user wise. So the same thing will probably happen in Italy.

Canadian news might've been easier to replace with American news outlets due to the deep ties between the two and the shared language. I doubt this would be the case for Italian news.

They also removed the news tab in the US. The news organizations seem dependent on social media, but the reverse does not appear true.

All news links are blocked on FB in Canada, including American sources

Soon they can only show US news. Then they become irrelevant to the rest of the world.

Frankly, the Canadian government needs to come down on them for the misleading and untruthful message that they post when Facebook censors news links.

It is past time that American companies are restrained from acting like boorish American tourists in other countries.

Ourworldindata basically just uses data from published research papers and makes interactive graphs that are easy to understand. They also cite their source in every graph and every article. Trying to paint them as disingenious is pretty baseless, you would have to take it up with the authors of the source data and not owid.

It's literally funded and published by the VCs backing so many of the AI companies here. Literally the fountain of money that produced Sam Altman.

I'm going to have to ask for a little more rigour than "they use data".

Data can be wielded in all manner of manipulative fashion to suit a preferred narrative. And when it's wielded by engineers defending large AI (or any) companies, they should at least acknowledge the fact that the data reporting is "coming from inside the house", so to speak.

The 20h figure is specifically for streaming 4k Netflix in the app on Windows. Netflix doesn’t even support 4K streaming on Linux as far as I know.

Good call out - but seeing 2.5W consumption at idle from people with it already on Linux so these numbers will hold (like Dell XPS 14)

They would have definitely advertised if it was something special like mini-LED but it seems to be a pretty standard display.

Judging by the graphics used in the launch event, it may actually be miniLED. Perhaps they aren't mentioning this so people don't compare their max 700 nits full screen brightness to other vendors' >1000 nits full screen brightness.
