almost to obvious - look at the source headbang thanks!

"3:00 pm" is in the middle of the night, the time to wake up for work will always "change"..

well, one time .. but do you !really! care about how the folks in +600 yrs measure time? I'd guess they invent some kind of "glacial-period-light-saving-time" by then...

Well, we're still using the Gregorian Calendar, and according to Wikipedia, that was released in 1582 [1]. When designing a system as eternal as time, I believe that it should still be easily usable in 100, 600, or 10,000 years; on any planet, and in any galaxy.

I know it's a joke, but it's lazy programming/lazy thoughts like this that caused the issues with the systems in the first place :)

Although I still don't fully understand why leap seconds caused such a problem - we can handle leap years and we can handle daylight savings, surely this is just another clock correction action such as these?

The problem with programming for a leap second is you don't know when a leap second will occur. Compare this to a leap year, which happen every 4 years, always. Leap seconds are sporadic [1]. Programming a clock to accept the time of 11:59:60 only on occasion is trivial in a web app, but slightly more complex in a firmware or high-reliability system like flight controls.

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense. I see what you mean about the sporadic nature of the insertions!

we currently do interaction design / wireframes ourselves and plan to get a visual/graphic designer onboard in the next weeks.

one point learned already here: a visual designer could have given valuable input early on. so try to gather some ideas from designers early on

Have you reached the MVP stage yet? I'm wondering whether it's viable to release before having a professionally made design.

no we havent released a MVP yet and i also think a mvp needs at least a "decent" design. (depending on your customers of course)

but we will do some user tests before the design is ready, just to find major flaws in the interaction & interface.

btw. the ads appearing within the videos are non-clickable.. dunno if this is good or bad for you ;)

kind of fun, you need to somehow generate interaction .. by a gaming/voting system so its like a game.

oh, yeah.. analyze the chatlogs.. just discussing the whole thing in-chat ;)

hey, some feedback:

- on first glance i don't get the idea of the site, somehow not even compelled to start the video (maybe try a more "compelling" preview-screen there)

- some "bussines buzzwords" like Online Conversation and Audiences . .. maybe try a quote instead (ask a friend if you dont want do make one up) in the quote, state the one or max. two TOP benefits i have from the site.. and also give me a hint who needs your thing. like: "lloquy helps me maximize my readers engagement.." (Jon Doe, BigBlog.com)

- signup might increase with a green or orange signup button, conveys success and gets attention

I think you really need a 1-sentence pitch to tell whats the benefit for me as a user? (answer for what? so what? now what?)

Best regards Patric

Thanks Patric. A more compelling preview screen is something that hasn't even crossed my mind (Sometimes it's the little things). Also appreciate the other feedback.

what do you think will be a robots job in 15yrs from now?

my bet: barbers, healthcare of elderly, ... whats yours?

well it can't look THAT awful ;) if the functionality is good the first few folks won't mind .

i cant remember who said that: "if you feel comftable shipping your product - you waited to long"

hey, i'd try the following

1. try to ask users of your app if they fancy to help you out, if youre lucky a design-gifted one is among them.

2. if you want to invest little $ try out oDesk.com or some crowdsourcing sites like http://brandstack.com/ http://www.crowdspring.com/ http://99designs.com/

good luck pa

Thanks for the links. I've not "opened up" my app yet, because I've been pretty embarrassed by how it looks. I'd rather get that sorted out first before I unleash it to the folks who might use it!
