What’s LLM?

Jumping ahead with TLAs off the top of my head to reduce future suffering:

ODE - Ordinary Differential Equations

FFT - Fast Fourier Transform

DSP - Digital Signal Processing

I should start demanding payment for taking a shower, I can’t believe I’ve been providing this service free of charge

If you would just be cleaner, showers wouldn’t even be necessary.

I mean honestly it’s like debugging - for God’s sake just stop writing the bugs in the first place.

Nobody wants paid for time spent in shower, we just wanna go home at night and be free to choose our activities and hobbies without being critiqued for having lives

What’s there to understand?

The problem is that we don't even know what might be there to understand. Since it is pretty much unknown how humans think (from a brain processing perspective), we also don't really know if the things we see in LLMs are just dumber versions of human thought processes or if they are qualitatively different.

LLMs literally can’t compute any complex algorithm, they can’t simulate different steps in chess to get which version is best, nor execute some non-trivial algorithm.

They are nowhere near close to human intelligence.

Once the honeymoon period wears off people will start complaining about it

And probably make it even better based on the feedback

Just stop, please. There's nothing wrong with working long hours and people enjoy it, let them live in peace.

That entirely depends on compensation.

I’ve stayed up for hackathons and stayed out late for meetups, this seems way more fun. Who cares if you’re redundant? Not everything is about status.

In this context being made redundant means losing your job.

(Just not sure if you’re aware.)

It’s worse than that. For many of them it also means they will have to leave the country because Space Karen had a new idea for the 19th time that week.

They have a job. Redundancy is taking their job away. There's a recession.
