been there. for these kinds of projects i never start with code, i start with specs. i sometimes spend days just working on the specs. once the specs are clear i start coding, which is completely different monster. basically not that different from a common workflow (spec > ticket > grooming > coding; more or less), but everything with AI.
Yeah, I make sure to spend my time on the hard problems and where you need to design for the future. I use AI up to around method level after that, have it do the drudge work of typing up tedious text, or to complete required boilerplate etc.

it’s about responsibility not who wrote the code. a better question would be who takes responsibility for generating the code? it shouldn’t matter if you wrote it on a piece of paper, on a computer, by pressing tab continuously or just prompting.

Wife's daily driver is a 4-series "Gran Coupé" (weird term to say it's got 4-doors and not two like the "coupé" but... "Gran" is not a french word: the french word would be "grand" so I think they somehow fucked up [1]) with the B48 ICE engine. Sweet car and really good looking.
But yeah: to each his own bad taste.

Problem solving does that, the coding part is just a means to that end. Learning a programming language is similar to learning a human language except much less complex. Solving problems with code helps with brain development, as does solving problems without code.
Coding is just more rewarding, it is important to learn how to solve problems with less rewarding systems. Would you have wanted to solve algebra problems on paper if you knew python? You don't need to solve those problems on paper, but it is good for brain development. Even better than coding for example. Keep in mind that a child's attention window is limited, this is very much a zero sum situation.
I've used it extensively in the last 36 hours to replace claude. It's not as good but it's much faster so when it makes a mistakes it's easy to get it to fix it. I find them a lot more engaged while it's doing things. So for me it's my main model and then I'll get back to Claude when I have something very tough
