If you have 10k experiments running then you are probably p-hacking.

HIPAA and other medical data protection laws are violated routinely. This could be important or it might be ignored in the face of the broader problem. I wonder if there is an authoritative deep dive on the nature of the UnitedHealthCare breach.

Certainly people work their way up and fade into a less strenuous role. Surely they don't just kick people to the curb. That would suck.

For set related jobs, the hours are the shoot. If the shoot runs long, everybody's on set. It's an exploitative - and in my view, completely unnecessary - culture. The marriages, parental relationships and health costs cannot be justified by the supposed necessity of dollar savings. But currently - especially in the US, film sets all to often work sweatshop hours. More enlightened practices, like 'French hours' (a ten hour day), are also possible. The films created under these conditions don't seem any worse, and the people involved are inarguably happier and healthier.

FWIW I have had no issues on a thinkpad for past 10 years running standard linux distros. I think it may come down to a combo of os and particular mb/laptop which is pretty easy to find recommendations.

Assets don't disappear they get bidded.

The problem is, what assets remain of a company that doesn't own anything material? OpenAI, Anthropic - they don't own datacenters that could be auctioned off. All they own is training data and trained weights, and both are relatively worthless.

The game that all the AI companies are playing is to be the last dog standing at all costs, because that kind of dominance is a money printer.

And who buys those troubled assets at deep discount? Where do they get the cash to pay for them?

If it was a phone call would you know for sure if it wasn't disclosed? I won't do pre-recorded videos and I won't knowingly interview with an AI ... I don't think, but maybe they'd have more clues about the difference between java and javascript, compatible skillsets for competing technologies etc.

I got an xps long time back that had the option to pay extra for ubuntu. I'm not going to pay to plug in a usb and I also get the joy of erasing a windows install from the face of this earth.

Cabin in the woods.

Eee fucking gads man!

Won't there be boots on the ground? We already bombed their facilities and at the time they said best that bombs can do is fuck up the entrance to these tunnels.
