pick up some venezuelan government bonds. they are trading at about 85 cents on the dollar currently so you should be able to pick up one. the return is about 13% annually (haven't checked in a couple weeks). They're backed by black gold so you're set.
I think this really highlights some of whats wrong with America. We are beginning to value those who extract value more highly than those who innovate and create value. I have worked very closely with government employees and while there are definitely some very qualified people doing very enlightened work, the majority of the ones in government positions are there because they are unfit for private employment and in many cases lack even a remedial understanding of the issues they regulate.
Having lived in London, I would agree with you. Almost every week I witnessed at least one bike accident, most of the people were hit by double decker buses. Though I should add that London is one of those places that really should have bike lanes but doesn't.
