This is really cool, I wish I could use it on my Windows 11 X1 Carbon which also comes with a NPU.

I was quite disappointed that the dictation tool Lenovo praised on their website for this "CoPilot+ AI PC" turned out to be a shortcut to the Windows 11 transcription tool. My hope was that they were indeed putting the NPU to use for that. Other than that this is a great machine. In any case, Lenovo should fire whoever is responsible for that feature and hire you instead.

It would also be great to see a demo of how this works on your machine. Thank you for sharing it at all, though!

Hey Finn, great project and impressive demo. I had some questions that I was able to answer via the FAQ, except for #3. I'll put the first two here just in case somebody else has the same questions:

1) What about languages other than English? Just English is supported for now.

2) Is this running locally? No.

3) Could you imagine offering a one time payment option? Dragon is currently charging 999 € for their latest version but I really like the fact that I actually own the software after paying once.

In any case, good luck with this!

Personally I am a big fan of anvil.works, although they deploy your application for you. I think self hosting has become an option recently, though.

Merry Christmas to everyone here and their families!

Very useful library, nice to see this on HN!

But VB also didn't host web apps for you including databases, user accounts, email etc. I think self hosting is an option with Anvil by now, in which case you may be able to remove the branding.

I started with Delphi 5 and completely share the sentiment of OP, development experience (mainly when building GUIs) was way better back then. For anyone who feels similarly I can only recommend you to look into Anvil. It is a fantastic tool, under active development and with a helpful and supporting community. It allowed me to build web apps by myself that I previously thought about hiring someone for. Very enjoyable experience and of course the fact that I am building web apps instead of desktop apps is a big plus in many scenarios today.

Great to see you here, Merdedydd! I was thinking about sending this thread to you. I discovered Anvil in a similar thread years ago and am very happy I did.

Sounds like a really cool project. Did you take any pictures of the box? Also congrats on getting married!

I didn‘t build a box itself. It was just the Nikon on a stand with a flash directed to the ceiling for better lighting. My laptop on a small table infront of it to control it and work as a display.

Very well said. It also feels really good to get rid of small things that annoy you every day by creating your own solutions, cf.:

Very cool, congratulations!
