Even today NetAct remains a hot mess.

Looking back, the way OSS Middleware was supposed to reboot NetAct, was the wrong approach, we had better just rewrite everything in better C++ without the Perl/CORBA stuff, but many pieces were at play.

Not much else I can talk openly about it.

Personally for me the issue is not the size but the transfer (think streaming, service migration, etc.)

I just have a syncthing folder shared between my VPS, my home server, my desktop, laptop, and phone; it syncs it continuously so a download once syncs it everywhere else. It's basically set it and forget it.

In some countries data consumption is still capped, and reducing bandwidth usage goes a long way in making media consumption more affordable.

> Pain is strictly a physical sensation.

Hard to tell that to those with lost limbs who suffer from ghost pain.

Do not be fooled by the term "ghost". The pain is still real, and experts now agree it is coming from both the brain and spinal cord [1]. Just like optical illusions, the mind can play many tricks on us. Just because the pain feels like it is coming from a non-existent limb does not mean that that is where it is actually coming from.

> the pain feels like it is coming from a non-existent limb does not mean that that is where it is actually coming from.

So uhh, what exactly is pain? Is it the feeling? Is it the physical damage? Is it a warning about damage? Is it the fear of damage (as in broken hearts etc.)?

I'm not a biologist or anything, but I'd define it simply as a signal from your nervous system to your brain.

So.. a thought? An emotion? Or a sensation?

I get mine from a small grocery store in my hometown in Lebanon. I pay around $3 for a kilo which contains usually some 8 cubes of soap.

Nice price! I wonder what shipping from Lebanon to Europe costs...

I'm not sure tbh, Aramex typically charges inbound shipments around $9 per 500 grams. However I must note that I'm not getting the best price. If I take a short trip to villages I can buy in bulk which is way, way cheaper. And these soap bars last very long.

Would you recommend a good resource for container shipping?

While I agree that 5G standard is still not finalized, in Qatar Ericsson will start deploying 5G gNodeBs starting by end of Q2. Nokia is modernizing the core network to a fully virtualize one and intercompatibility is mostly solved in this network.

It's usually a cat-and-mouse game, with some commercial deployments solidifying some portions of the standards, while themselves accommodating other portions of the standards from other networks as the technology matures in the upcoming years.

You know this is a problem for the layman like me. I need to get educated on the general aspects of so many things in life. But with science and knowledge always progressing at a fast pace, the "truth" is always evolving. And this makes it a problem because I cannot be 24/7 invested in every single area of my interest, which are many. So I appreciate Jared Diamond and Bill Bryson because they make available to me (random person with a lot of interests but limited time) a quick overview of things, which I gladly accept at a high enough accuracy. It's sort of like Wikipedia, yes not the be-all-end-all reference but gets you started.

I'm afraid you're looking at it purely from a citizen/resident of a developed country. Where I'm originally from, addresses are all mostly a description of how to reach a certain location given the surrounding landmarks.

A close to reality (just changed the exact names) example is:

Firstname Lastname Second floor North John Hancock's building behind the Saint Joseph school (Church side) Neighborhood of the Priars City Country

Of course in native language it's more fluid but you get the idea.

Up to 4% of the company's revenue doesn't solve much. Depending on the sector, 4% of revenue (are we talking EBITDA?) may potentially be less than a slap on the wrist, and internally middle-management will take the blame for the reduction in sales margin/operating profit.

The above comment is almost certainly a reference to GDPR, for which the maximum penalty for malicious non-compliance is "up to 4 % of the total worldwide annual turnover." It is not net income or profit or EBIDTA or anything else that subtracts operating cost, it is revenue.

Parent said revenue, not EBITDA.

I discovered the same last week. I made a trip to Amsterdam some 11 years ago, and since then uploaded my entire photo library to Google Photos. Last week I was playing around and searched "Amsterdam" in Google Photos, whaddaya know, (most of my) photos from Amsterdam showed up, at least those with discernible features/buildings/landmarks.
