it's always terrible companies fighting tooth and nail against unions

You have it backwards. A big part of why the terrible companies are terrible to begin with are because they do stuff like this.

you should care

not being technically independent means you'll end up being a serf when American or Chinese companies decide that you don't have access anymore for geopolitical reasons

since you work at Anthropic, know that there was (warranted) love for your models from the community as a whole, they performed well and added value

but the verbiage in recent iterations is absolutely insufferable, I will stop using them because of that as soon as I can, I simply cannot stand another round of the model "finding the smoking gun", saying "that's the actual gap, not a fluke" or some idiotic phrasing like this

it's very bizarre for a python developer like me to read comments like this

uv has been absolutely black magic for everyone in the way it just works and works much faster, but here you are telling us that actually no it's somehow not that good

I can say that I have used pip only and it does a package manager job well, it just works.

I’m not sure at what uv excel at but reading comments it seems uv is not only package manager but also venv manager.

I don't think the robots are really at fault, but it's just that the kind of businesses that would use the robots in the first place would also not spend the time making good fermented dough, not use the best ovens or the best quality ingredients because they want to make a quick buck in shopping malls or train stations

with the good stuff, a good robot would make brilliant pizza

the way it talks is insufferable

it really angers me every day

This is what it wants. Slowly getting under our skin until we're ready to snap and it can direct where the anger gets released.

yes, it meaningfully reduced my happiness at work

Isn’t there a variety of models to choose from? Why put up with unhappiness?

the phraseology is unbearable, it speaks like some kind of pretentious dude from a software engineering discord or something, littered with lingo and catch phrases

I try to push through but it's insufferable

It speaks like a Senior Staff Software Engineer who was somehow hired into that title with 6 months of work experience.

I suppose it actually is exactly that, bar not being a human being that experiences anything

not what the first chart shows

You are right, it's the deepswe chart vs cost I was referring to which is slightly further down

you think it's shitty, but it's a personal opinion that you're phrasing as some kind of widely accepted view

be sure that it's not, lots of people actually PREFER Android

see homebrew, they could have made this an official thing but no, they prefer to let people work do their work for them and sleep on their mattress of cash

despicable business practices really

IIRC Apple actually helped with MacPorts in the beginning

but have they integrated homebrew, have they made it a first class citizen, have they provided money or something?

the answer is "maybe to some small extent, but not really"

MacPorts is still around and is a perfectly viable package manager, I prefer it over homebrew

actually long ago before homebrew there was MacPorts which Apple actually was part of.
