POPUP

Does the pop up prevent you from reading the article? I had no problem with mobile Safari.

If there's a discussion you'd like to have regarding pop ups, please post something more substantive than POPUP.

You comment a lot on pop ups and paywalls. The HN position on paywalls is well-documented.

If you think a post is inappropriate for HN, flag it and move on.

paywall

Have you tried the "web" link under the submission title? It worked for me.

Also, please note that paywalled articles are okay on HN as long as there's a workaround (which is what the "web" link is for). Same goes for popups. Yes, they're annoying. Some people avoid them with scripts.

From the FAQ (https://news.ycombinator.com/newsfaq.html):

Are paywalls ok?

It's ok to post stories from sites with paywalls that have workarounds.

In comments, it's ok to ask how to read an article and to help other users do so. But please don't post complaints about paywalls. Those are off topic.

I tried all of the top web links provided (including both ft.com links) and still hit paywall. The farthest I got was the Opinion main page. This was in a fresh Opera Beta private window.

Safari (not private) with Ghostery. 4 blocked scripts. Wish I knew what the triggering factor is.

Please don't use tiny light grey text.

Giant pop-up after 10 seconds of viewing article. Nope.

"I Didn't Get Hired. Here's Why" Doesn't say why.

Even worse, he says: "I don't know why."

Ok stop posting this

Why do I need to log in to read the article?

You can read the cached version of the article without log in. Here is the link: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ItQkug...

Either it's a glitch or you don't use NoScript. I got the whole article plus a message about all kinds of scripts blocked. :)

Thanks; just turning off javascript works too.

Don't know why you need to.

Works for me with uMatrix and uBlock Origin enabled.

Why does HN link to so so many sites with popups?
